How long should you hold on to a property?
Long term. Property investing is long-term. It's because market cycles on average are 7 to 10 years. That's an average. It could be 11, or 12 years. But the point I'm trying to make is that it's a long-term investment.
When anyone asks me when should I sell my property, I'd say at minimum when it's doubled in value. As long as you have a tenant that's paying rent or can get a tenant to pay rent and pay your expenses, etc., and manage the expenses, I'd be holding until it has doubled in value. If you have a tenant who's paying rent or get a tenant to pay rent or can get a tenant to pay rent or can get a tenant to pay rent, I'd be holding until it has doubled in value. If it hasn't doubled in value, let's say in 10 years, that is very unlikely, especially in Australia, that might be considered a debt investment. And that's when I may be looking at selling, but I highly doubt that's going to happen, no matter where in Australia it is right now.
